As a rule of thumb, stand on hard 17 or higher, and stand on hard 12–16 when the dealer shows 2 through 6 (a "bust card"). Hit hard 12–16 when the dealer shows 7 through Ace, and always hit hard 11 or lower. Soft hands and pairs follow their own rules — the trainer above drills all of them.
Always split Aces and 8s. Never split 5s or 10-value cards. Other pairs depend on the dealer's upcard — for example split 2s, 3s, 6s and 7s against weaker dealer cards. Practice every pair scenario in the trainer's Pairs mode.
A soft hand contains an Ace counted as 11, so it cannot bust with one more card — for example A-6 is a "soft 17." Soft hands are played more aggressively than hard totals because the Ace gives you a safety net to hit or double.
